Description

eCLOSE@Esperanza: Intro to Diabetes

In eCLOSE@Esperanza: Intro to Diabetes , you learned the basics of biomedical research AND worked with our favorite model organism: The Fruit Fly! Summer student scientists will learn techniques and protocols to examine how nutrients can affect the development of The Fruit Fly. They will complete more advanced techniques like solution-making and micropipetting! Participants will put hand-eye skills to the test as they move napping fruit flies for sorting! Scientists will collect REAL-TIME data and present their findings to their colleagues!

New for 2026: As student scientists learn more about how nutrition impacts diabetes genes, they will dive into BIOCHEMISTRY and get a better understanding of how glucose levels are impacted!!

School District of Philadelphia students: qualify for sponsored scholarships! CODE: KEEPFLYING
