eCLOSE UG Bridge immerses upper secondary students and undergraduates in laboratory-based research, providing the technical and conceptual skills to attack these important questions head on.
As an eCLOSE UG Bridge scientist, you will conduct a genetic screen to identify nutrients or antiviral compounds that affect signals important for cancer, diabetes , or chronic pain.
Participants will submit an essay using the results of the screen, to develop hypotheses for WHY the nutrient or drug has an effect and design an experimental plan for determining the answers.
Essay will be reviewed prior to moving on to the independent research session.
Don’t panic- expert eCLOSE instructors will be with you the whole way, guiding you through the decision tree and supporting your development as a research scientist!
eCLOSE Institute is particularly interested in YOUR ideas, including the dietary interventions used in your family for disease prevention or treatment and the diseases that matter most to you. Projects will be conducted with guidance from professional scientists, at eCLOSE Institute and via Zoom.

It was very fun and engaging. I enjoyed every bit of it. I love that it was inclusive by having a virtual option for students that can't commute every day to campus. It was one of the best experiences I have had. I'm very thankful for the opportunity!!
It is very well thought out and provides great support on STEM topics and networking. It brought together a well-knit group of people that shared similar beliefs and passion for research. We became real-life scientists who enjoyed learning more about cancer and its effects on society.
This program was very good, as it gave me insight into what working as a researcher would be like in the future. It gave me professionalism and knowledge that I can apply in the future, if I choose to pursue being a scientific researcher.
Please contact eCLOSE Institute if you have any questions.
