Description

Join us for a week of microbiology!

Students will research bacteria, working on the questions:

What is good bacteria?

What is bad bacteria?

Can we use food or other things to make sure our bodies have the good bacteria?

Like all eCLOSE programs, students will learn core lab skills in order to investigate research questions rooted in their own ideas and communities. We will be investigating gut bacteria- a bacteria community called the "microbiome".

The microbiome is in the news these days, with new scientific discoveries highlighting the importance of our gut bacteria friends and their influence on health.  This means all kinds of health- digestion, allergies, asthma, cancer risk, you name it-  the microbiome makes a contribution.
